A story that's too mad to make up.

Garfield has made this kind of book his own - he did this previously with his excellent 'The Wrestling'. Basically, you take a crazy real-life event that happened to minor celebs and has significant pop cultural value, interview as many people as possible that were involved, and string their quotes together with almost no additional text so the mad egos tell the story themselves, revealing far more than Garfield ever could have added.

Highlights include any bit that involves John Peel and John Walters coping with the madness raging around them. Peel's best description is of an afternoon spent on an island in a moat outside a castle, watching the Bay City Rollers play a Radio 1 Roadshow on the island whilst professional resuce divers (employed to pluck screaming fans out of the water) were almost drowned in the wash from a speedboat circling around containing DLT and some Wombles.

As I said, you couldn't make it up if you tried . . .
