Manuel de Landa's historical analysis dispenses with conventional narratives to treat the last millennium in terms of its "geological", "biological" and "linguistic" histories. Pedants might argue with even this kind of classification, but de Landa's eclecticism saves the day, with his unerring ability to find parallels across time and place.
