Brilliant fun in lots of little envelopes
Already a kids' classic, this book presents a day in the life of the postman in the title, delivering letters to well-known fairy tale characters. The gimmick is in the presentation: the letters being delivered are included in envelopes as part of the book's binding, so some of the fun is just opening up the little packages to see what's inside...

... and that's where the rest of the fun is: a witch supplies catalogue, some play money, a party invitation, a threatening solicitor's letter (to the Big Bad Wolf, courtesy of the Three Little Piggies), even another little book (presenting a compressed version of the Cinderella story). The authentic styling of each (while retaining the familiar Ahlberg touch) adds to the joke, and there's a continual story thread too. (Plus lots of tea.)

I think it's aimed at 4-7 year olds, but I'm not sure. Who cares. Grab a random kid as an excuse to buy it. It's brilliant.
