Boring
Bought this cheap in Waterstone's as it was always on the periphery of books I meant to read.

Nice opener, really getting into the lives of the people living by the A40 and their resistance to the compulsory purchase order on their houses, but boy does it drag in the middle.

He spends a considerable amount of time in the middle of the book doing a cod-urban studies dissertation on civic planning, Le Corbusier and modernism. But it's crap. Up until that point, he'd nicely peppered this reference material into the book in odd paragraphs, but this concentrated bit in the middle is like a bad undergrad essay.

After that, he struggles to retain the reader's interest in what should be an interesting tale. And fails.
